Building joy in Harahan, Louisiana

Royland Playground in Harahan, Louisiana, stands as a shining example of inclusive and community-centered playground design. As a Pelican Playgrounds Portfolio Park and Limitless Playspace, this project was made by possible through donations of inclusive playground equipment from our top manufacturing partners and was installed by volunteers in October 2025.

From the moment visitors arrive, it’s clear that Royland Playground is designed for everyone. There are unique recreation spaces specifically designed for toddlers, young children, teens and young adults, all the way up through adults and seniors! The park features several inclusive and accessible components, ensuring everyone feels welcome.

Featured Playground Equipment

At the entrance of the playground is an 8-foot-wide Mighty Descent Slide with an attached PlayCubes climbing tower, both donated by Playworld.

This centerpiece invites kids of all ages and abilities to explore at their own pace. The slide’s wide design encourages kids to slide down together, while the modular PlayCubes structure allows for multiple points of access and varying challenge levels.

The PlayCubes also feature interior sensory panels, providing stimulation and inclusive play experiences. The combination supports cooperative play and helps children build strength, balance, and confidence.

Early Childhood Area

For younger children, the Community Helpers PlayTown playhouse, also donated by Playworld, provides a whimsical, scaled-down environment that sparks imaginative play.

Its open design allows easy entry for children using mobility aids and gives caregivers full visibility and access, promoting both safety and inclusion.

The playhouse is designed for children ages 2 to 5 and invites young imaginations to come alive!

Inclusive Playground Equipment

Another standout feature of Royland Playground is the interactive Sona Dance and Play Arch, donated by Lappset USA. This motion-sensing, music-based play experience invites children and adults to move, dance, and compete in fun, inclusive games.

Because it relies on body motion rather than fine motor skills, it is equally engaging for users with diverse abilities and ages, from preschoolers to grandparents. The Sona Arch encourages active play and social interaction, helping to break down barriers between generations and abilities.

Adding a touch of natural charm, the Songbird wooden playhouse and Wobble Boards, both donated by Earthscape, offers a quiet, sensory-friendly retreat. The Songbird’s cozy scale and shaded interior provide a calming space for children who may need a break from more stimulating play, while the Wobble Boards providing a balance-testing challenge!

Thank you to our partners & the City of Harahan

Together, these features transform Royland Playground into more than just a play area – it’s a testament to the power of community and collaboration. Every element reflects Pelican Playgrounds’ commitment to ensuring that all people, regardless of age or ability, can share in the joy and developmental benefits of play.

We extend our deep appreciation and gratitude to our manufacturing partners who made this project possible, including Playworld, LAPPSET USA, ForeverLawn Gulf South, Earthscape, TrekFit, Independence Design Group, and UltiPlay Parks & Playgrounds.
